The Oppo Find X6 Pro Is Amazing And That Makes Me Both Happy And Sad…

Oppo recently announced the Find X6 Pro bringing a redesign and a 1" main camera sensor among other impressive features, plus that now typical Hasselblad partnership. It’s a big step up in all areas from the Find X5 series released last year.

The different colours of the Find X6 Pro

The phone just launched in China and as soon as it launched here in the UK I was looking at making it my daily driver. Though there was bad news on this front. The Find X6 series is not getting a global release and will be China only, following on from its sister company under the BBK umbrella Vivo with its X90 Pro. And this makes me very sad indeed, although there’s likely a good reason for it.

There’s a common opinion in the tech community and you’ll see it a lot, is that Chinese brands need to be priced lower than the competition. However when they’re cramming in far more tech than the likes of Samsung and Apple we can’t expect them to be selling phones at a loss and it’s unfair to class the likes of Oppo as being “cheap”.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip

In my opinion Oppo and also Vivo have taken the decision to keep these ultra premium devices in their homeland simply because they don’t think they can sell them at the price required in Europe and elsewhere. Instead, as the Oppo UK Twitter account confirmed in replies to enquiries, they intend to focus on the budget, midrange and foldable segments in the regions outside of China. At least for now anyway.

So whilst I’m hugely impressed by the Find X6 Pro and that makes me very happy I’m ultimately saddened by the fact that I won’t be able to get one. There’s always the chance that as component costs are lowered throughout the year or for the devices coming after this Oppo may decide to bring their flagship products to a wider audience.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The 13 Ultra is rumoured to be getting a global release.

Until then it seems we’re relying on another Chinese OEM to release a phone to the wider world featuring that cutting edge 1" Sony IMX989 sensor. More on that soon…
